Another milestone

Over the past 20 years, CAEP has played a leading role in advancing emergency medicine in Canada. This first issue of CJEM is another milestone - one that reflects our increasing maturity as a specialty.
The CAEP Board, in its strategic planning, recognized the need for change and felt the time had come for a Canadian emergency medicine journal. CJEM, under the editorial leadership of Dr. Grant Innes, will be a valuable resource for Canadian emergency physicians. It will promote Canadian authors and Canadian EM research. Canadian emergency physicians will now have the option of contributing high-quality articles and original research to a Canadian scientific publication. We anticipate that our members, and recognized leaders in academic emergency medicine, will contribute original research, review articles and editorials to the new journal.
Although we perceived a need to enhance scientific content, we recognized that Communiqué, our newsletter, has served CAEP members well over the past decade. We also recognized that our members value Communiqué's humour and informal tone; therefore, CJEM will continue this tradition. We hope you will find the new journal as entertaining and informative as you found Communiqué.
Both the CAEP Board and the CJEM Editorial Board trust you enjoy your new publication. Moreover, we expect you will feel the same sense of pride and ownership that we do, that you will support CJEM, and help us improve and grow by regularly sending us your comments and your articles.
