Welcome to the first section on ³Resident Issues² in our new journal. With this section, CAEP reaffirms its commitment to the future of Canadian emergency medicine and future leaders in our specialty. Resident Issues will focus on work by and about future emergency physicians in Canada. The overall goal of this section is to promote

  • publications and publishing skills of Canadian EM residents;
  • the growth and development of future EM practitioners in Canada;
  • the research skills of Canadian EM residents;
  • communication, idea sharing and national networking among the youngest Canadian EM physicians; and
  • the discussion of issues, problems and solutions of importance to future EM physicians in Canada.

The section is designed to provide residents from across the country a forum for their work and a voice for their ideas. We hope it is here that many cutting-edge EM issues will first appear. It is up to all of us to ensure that this section is a strong contribution to CJEM.

The first feature of this section is a solid example of an important resident issue ‹ career planning. Ivy Cheng¹s article provides a resident¹s perspective of one emerging EM career path for all of us to consider: International Emergency Medicine.

This is your column. Your feedback, papers, questions and comments are welcome. Resident reviewers are also needed. Please contact us c/o the CAEP office or contact me directly at jfrank@istar.ca. I look forward to your publications!
