American Board certified emergency physicians get specialist billing in BC
News
CJEM 2000;2(2):131
The British Columbia Medical Association Board recently passed a motion recommending that American Board (ABEM) certified emergency physicians be permitted to bill for specialist consultations. Until now, this privilege has only been extended to Royal College certified specialists. The new policy will apply to emergency physicians who have American Board certification and who have successfully re-certified at the required 10-year intervals.
This motion has yet to be ap-proved by the Medical Services Comission, but it is a step forward for emergency medicine in BC. More good news: the "other" college has not been forgotten. A similar review is now being launched for CCFP(EM) certificants, with the help and guidance of Dr. Graham Dodd from Kamloops, BC.
