News

CJEM 2001;3(2):156

The CAEP Web site is being revamped. Many of you will already have noticed that caep.ca has a new look. The redesign of caep.ca will occur over several months, with long-awaited features and functionalities to be added along the way. The new Web site will be more user-friendly and easier to navigate. A few items will disappear from the Web site; however, most of the existing features will remain. The most notable disappearance will be the pharmaceutical advertising. Despite this, the reorganization of caep.ca will occur at an overall cost-savings to members with a more efficient use of funding. Here are some section highlights.

The Welcome Page will update you on what's new at CAEP and at caep.ca and will bring you the latest from CJEM.

Position Statements & Guidelines will make it easier to find valuable documents such as the recent CAEP Position Statement on "Thrombolytic therapy for acute ischemic stroke" and the CAEP/NENA "Joint Position Statement on emergency department overcrowding."

Committees & Sections will allow you to volunteer and become more involved with CAEP activities via an online form.

CME will contain information regarding CAEP's annual conference, CAEP Roadshows, other CAEP-sponsored events, as well as other events and meetings. A more user-friendly sign-up process for CAEP-sponsored events is in the planning stages.

Residents now contains the standardized CCFP(EM) application. You can look for even more comprehensive information about EM residencies and fellowships in the future.

Research will bring the present Research section and CAEP's Research Consortium Web site ( www.infoward.com/caep/ ) together in a more cohesive fashion.

Discussion lists will be continued and expanded. The EmergCanada discussion list has been a big success. Emergency physicians have utilized the list to exchange ideas with their colleagues across the country on the full range of EM-related topics including clinical topics, administration, EMS, etc. Look for the addition of other discussion lists for Pediatric EM, Residents, and others.

Employment will show you the way if you are looking for a career change. Advertisers may have their ads posted in CJEM, on caep.ca, or both. Present advertisements cover the whole country and offer both academic and community opportunities.

Regional Pages should expand as the interprovincial liaison group continues in their work, and strengthens the exchange of ideas and experiences across the country.

IFEM (International Federation of Emergency Medicine) is proudly hosted by www.caep.ca as this organization looks to continue its development.

Links contains an ever-growing list of national and international EM-related organizations from where you can surf the EM world. Please send us any suggestions for worthy EM-related links.

Search Tool will finally be added to the Web site in the coming months, and allow you to find a specific item more easily.

Many more features will be continued and added over the next little while. However, as we reorganize the Web site, there will be some bumps and glitches along the way. The EmergCanada discussion list will likely be down for a time. We appreciate your patience along the way. This period of flux represents an excellent time for CAEP members and nonmembers alike to make suggestions ( info@caep.ca ) regarding what they would like to see at www.caep.ca.

Many thanks are due in a project this size. This site would not be possible without the tremendous work of Jim Thompson, whose term as Editor ended in August 2000. Thankfully, Jim has stayed on as an Assistant Editor. Sue Norrington and the gang at the Head Office have also been invaluable.
