The 2002 CAEP Residents' Section (CAEP-RS) meeting will start off with dinner in downtown Hamilton on Tuesday, April 16th. Come and socialize with your fellow residents over a nice meal and a glass of wine. We will introduce and congratulate the recipients of the CAEP Teacher of the Year Award and the CAEP Resident Leadership Award. This will be followed by our keynote speaker, who will introduce the topic for this year's conference: "Extreme Emergency Medicine." Then it's time to check out the Hamilton night life!
The next day will start with a continental breakfast followed by a morning of talks from extreme emergency medicine specialists. Ever wonder how far your emergency medicine training can take you? Hear from some of your colleagues who have traversed the depths of the wilderness, the high seas, the tops of mountains and even outer space. Let's not forget that any busy emergency department can closely approximate a jungle at times; hear from the experts on how we can manage and improve the overcrowding situation.
After that, it's time for a light lunch and the CAEP-RS elections. Now's your chance to get involved on a national scale! After lunch, we sit down and brainstorm about how we can stay human for the rest of our residency. Pick up some tips from people who have been there about how to study, yet have fun and even raise a family.
As we wrap up the afternoon and head over to register for the main conference, check out the first annual CAEP-RS Job Fair. Representatives will be there to meet with you and discuss job opportunities in their area.
We all hook up again on Friday for an afternoon of rock climbing. Then it's a relaxed dinner at East Side Mario's, where we will meet up with the medical students and answer their questions about residencies and fellowships in emergency medicine.
For more information on the conference, the CAEP awards or the Residents' Section in general, please follow the links to the residents' home page (caep.ca). We have a great conference lined up for this year! I hope you can come and get involved.
See you in April!
