In June 2005, Emergency Medicine residents from across the country gathered in Edmonton to attend the CAEP Residents' Symposium. Organizers Rob Woods and Rob Keyes brought together a fantastic mix of educational and social events. Highlights of the events included the simulation day at the STARS air ambulance base as well as excellent lectures on Mentorship in Emergency Medicine by Dr. Ivan Steiner and Crisis Resource Management by Dr. Russ Brown.

CAEP Resident Awards were presented at the annual resident dinner.

Dr. Robert Hall

This year the CAEP FRCP-EM Resident Leadership Award went to Dr. Rob Hall from the University of Calgary. Fellow residents praised Rob's many talents, calling him "… the benchmark by which we fellow residents judge ourselves." Dr. Hall has proven himself as a gifted teacher and researcher, studying the use of Human Patient Simulators in the training of residents and paramedics. One of the greatest accomplishments Rob has made was to spearhead the introduction of Emergency Department Ultrasound in Calgary.

Dr. Jason Frank

Residents were proud to present Dr. Jason Frank with this year's CAEP EM Teacher of the Year Award. Dr. Frank is currently a staff emergency physician at the University of Ottawa and has been a shining light in medical education in Canada. Besides creating the first Canadian EM fellowship in Medical Education, he is also a founder and member of the CAEP Roadshow "ED STAT! Strategies for Teaching Anytime." Moreover, Dr. Frank has been a major promoter of the CanMEDS roles. Of great significance to residents, Dr. Frank was the founder and first member of the CAEP Resident Section.

Congratulations to the winners and nominees! Also thank you to the STARS simulation staff and all staff and residents who helped to make the day such a success!
